Every family reunion has the same casualty: whoever's behind the grill misses the whole thing. Bring in a hibachi chef and the entire family — including the cook of the family — actually sits down together.
Reunions are the biggest groups we cook for, and the format was practically built for them. Four generations around a U-shape of tables, one chef in the middle, and a show that lands for everyone — the kids scream at the onion volcano, the aunts film the fire show, and the grandparents get a hot, cooked-in-front-of-them dinner instead of a potluck plate. For groups past 25-30 we bring a second chef and grill, cooking in parallel so both ends of the family eat at the same time.
It also ends the reunion's oldest argument: who cooks and who cleans. No one does. The chefs arrive, set up, cook, and leave the space the way they found it, and the only job left for the family is telling stories.
Half our reunions happen at the family homestead's backyard; the other half happen at big vacation rentals — a beach house for the week, a lake house, a mountain cabin with a wide deck. We cook at all of them, and with 1,000+ cities in our coverage map, the odds are good we already cook where your family is meeting this year.
Budgeting for a big family is straightforward: $55 per adult, $30 per kid, one travel fee, and a 10-guest / $500 minimum that reunions clear easily. Grandma eats free? That's between you and grandma — but with kids at $30, a 40-person reunion usually lands far under what a caterer quotes for the same headcount. We book seven days a week, so mid-week reunion dinners work too.
There's no real ceiling — one chef serves up to about 25-30, and bigger reunions get multiple chefs and grills running in parallel. Our largest events run well past 60 guests.
Yes — reunion weeks at beach houses and lake houses are one of our most common bookings. Any safe open-air space works: deck, driveway, patio, or yard.
Everything is cooked to order per seat — plain chicken and rice for the kids, no-sodium or no-shellfish plates for the elders, vegetarian for whoever brought the new partner. Collect notes once and we'll sort it.
